We recently explored an area outside of Trinidad, CA about a 20 minute drive from our house. Between the wind blowing steady, the waves churning and crashing below us and the uneven ground, all of my senses were wide awake. The power of the ocean was palpable as I sat at the edge of the last bits of solid ground before a drop off into the churning wild waters.
Where I want to sit down to feel a little more steady and grounded while taking in all the sounds and surges, my boys don’t stop moving. Their little feet barely keeping up with their eyes darting from one edge to the next. It is terrifying! Luckily, my husband finds ways to slow their stride. Soon we won’t be able to keep up with them at all. We were all impacted by this experience, we are still talking about it.
This place is locally called, the blow-hole. When the tide is coming in the waves funnel up between a perfectly placed crack and the spray is launched 40 feet in the air. I am happy to say it wasn’t high tide when we were there, I don’t think my heart could have handled it. The views down here are sure worth the excitement though.

For me , it reminds me of the beautiful emerald coast of Bretagne. It is surprising how much beauty can be found so close. Love the rocks and the waves breaking on them…
Elvira, I had to google Bretagne and yes, I see the resemblance there as well. I am in awe at the vast beauty that surrounds where we live. This is a view fit for a hard fought vacation, not somewhere I am used to visiting 20 min from my front door. I am thankful everyday and so grateful my boys get the experience of such places on a weekly basis. Thank you!

The tide scares me a little bit. I haven’t been around the ocean so much, so I don’t understand the rhythm go the tide. I’m always afraid that I’m going to get a horrible surprise..sort of.

We always check the tide charts before heading out. And, the sneaker wave forecast too. We would not have gone down here if tides were high, no way!
