The Garden

Remembering

I know it is true
that you are gone free, unburdened
by your mind clouding over your spirit, succumbed
to sitting and looking out the window at a view you don’t recognize
hopefully you don’t realize
your sense of humor vanished in a moment
just like your ability to remember simple things
it was clear your strong body didn’t know
how to be now, your mind so still
compared to everyday before
a laundry list of errands or roads to explore

You knew the way
to anywhere, where to find anything in Costco
and best of all you knew how
to make my Grandmother laugh
you didn’t get mad
when she beat you with a better card hand, your friendship
that was easily noticed when you were dancing
or exchanging glances it is clear
it was confusing to you both
to experience your mind letting you down
when you counted on it so solid so firmly sound

Now forgetful unmindful careless slack
distracted absent these are not words I would ever use
to describe the whole you
it is heartbreaking as I’m sure you must have felt too
but now that your life has passed on
now that you are free
from the deepened depths of this disease may you know
we remember you as you were
as we know you wanted to be
and may you rest
in eternal peace now happily remembering

Inside Me

This morning as the rain begins
its relentless seasonal soaking of the ground
the warm bright light
is left to shine behind the thick lid of clouds

I notice myself shifting from looking
out the window
to looking inside myself
a shift as gentle as waking up (more…)

Radiant Bloom

And she waits in her radiance
softness and style she opens to the light, she holds still
until she can’t do anything else but let go lying deep
in the forest only becoming her most true wild self without any audience
except her own soul, she is enough
she is and she does, springing to life
as the sunlight grows stronger
through the springtime

Core Beauty

Inward she floats coiled
and sure she knows where she is going
it is worth the effort the anticipated darkness
worth the uncomfortable experience, she is gone
down into the depths of questions
enough times now to understand why, it is a necessity
to unfurl her beauty waiting
soon reaching beyond her core

My Mane

Some manes are invisible they float
and move with the wind giving power
to those who feel they are actually there
those who know hold their head high shoulders back and walk
with an presence that is noticeable
like they have an invisible shield blocking (more…)

Forget-me-not

Of course so many need
you need you to care
for their wounds need you to calm their wild-eyed views need you
to tenderly speak need you
to listen while they weep so many need you
to believe in their goodness their dreams they need
you to remind them to see (more…)

WPC: Surprise

There is an element of surprise within
those who don’t fit in who bling
instead of blend
standing tall strong deep and wide unwilling to curve
to another with expectations instead they find their unique stride they wind
their own way offering a glimpse (more…)

WPC: Dense

Seasonally prolific bursting fresh
purely blooming beauties cluster
with wonder softening anyone’s voice that draws
near all those winter thoughts a stuck heavy thick dense muck
becomes overrun with anticipation
scents of fresh air and longer days
a golden lit evening undeniable in its magical potential to churn you (more…)
