WPC: Experimental

** This post is part of the Weekly Photo Challenge. This week’s theme is “Experimental”. We were asked to provide images about an experimental experience. A couple weeks ago the school I work for had a teacher in-service day, which meant I didn’t have work and my boys who go to a different school did. I had a day to myself in the middle of the week. That is experimental in itself! (more…)

WPC: Transient

Sometimes she wonders
what is behind her what is waiting there
for her to see
what does the view look like after she passes through
and she now looks
with knowing eyes at the past parts feeling less
overwhelming brighter more filtered more (more…)

Abstract Spring

Like a freshly born colt you wobble
with unused legs through the beginnings
of spring the sun so blinding you can hardly see
your eyes not use to direct contact
with its rays in many ways it all feels like too much so much
to do to feel to express to exchange to notice to expect to experience
a discombobulated mess of thought and anticipation blending
colors and winters depth freshness
bitter winds and just when you have an idea
how to move beyond (more…)

One

I am called to this
lone tree the hum of the birds
and the bees
the swift current winds need my breath
to join in
to sit still and soft
shoulders warming from the high sun
melting the busy must-do layers quietly
one by one
until all is shed and the ground absorbs
my weight my hair
flows lightly behind
me and here now I am one
with this magnificence

Exploring Fern Canyon

Places like this take some effort to get to. Of course, I don’t really think of it that way because the effort it takes pales in comparison to the experience. You can find the Fern Canyon turn off along the 101 through Redwood National Park at the Elk Meadow turn off. It is actually part of the Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park and costs $8 (exact change only or check) to park. (more…)

7 Day Nature Challenge/ Day 5

I thought these images fit both the nature challenge as well as the WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge. The theme this week is, “Future” and you can find more images HERE.

When I became a mother, I knew I would encourage my boys through adventure and curiosity to love nature. It is my way of ensuring the future of this beautiful planet is in good hands. And, everyday I work hard to remind them to look and see all the natural beauty that surrounds them. We say good morning to our local river as we drive over on our way to school, they see me looking closely with my camera at tiny pretty things where ever we are walking, they are more aware than I realize sometimes.
