A blanket of truth and quiet
a softness that quickly builds the drumming
of your own heartbeat
it begins get louder as you tune in
to the breath
beneath your feet the exhale of the ocean waves
the sky welcoming your gaze it is palpable
and the silence comes in endlessly
seeping between
the cracks of reality and finds a home

It isn’t often we can stand
directly on the line where what is and what was
are on either side, a whole day
of acceptance in speaking in the past tense
while eagerly throwing thoughtful wishes

Of the future to all
when we come into contact with this day
before the next year begins

WPC: 2017 Favorites

A WordPress challenge to choose a favorite photograph from this past year, I tried. Instead it led me to pick 12 photographs. Each with a story, each sharing the hope for detailed adventures coupled with an outpouring of powerful solitude. I am ever grateful for this space…to come to when I need to write and notice the details of a scene I wouldn’t otherwise dig into. I’d love to hear if you found a favorite within this grouping of 12. Night-time Luck

I found myself drawn to the window as the glow from the moon and newly lit tree magnetized the view. My hands reached for my camera before I could question the idea of taking photographs in the darkness. And, as I opened the slider warm night air– such an eerie feeling for the end of November– welcomed me layer-less and eager to begin this experiment. I don’t have a tripod, I know! So, I instantly walked to the edge of our deck and laid on my belly trying to see if I could get all I wanted in the frame. I wasn’t lucky enough to make that work so I sat on the ground in front of the deck, holding the camera on my knee and tilting it into position.
