Today I wake in the tree tops
learning to find my balance so high
above leaning against a redwood trunk finding
my breath sucked away
with my heart beating faster than I can sustain
I want to close my eyes but the sky won’t let me
the colors deepening then softening
and the rays quickly making their way
from smolder to rage a firestorm of beginnings
and there is no denying that the day
is now broken
I can only spread my feet wider apart
simply letting the view
surround my heart

So nice, Carrie. I love the incidental rhyme and the visual contained in the last three lines.
Thank you, Janet. It has been quite a while since I wrote a poem. Hard to believe, maybe but it’s true. I made a promise to a friend I would start my mornings this week engaged in nature and it has really turned my mood around. This morning was such a treat!
