Drifting in and out
of the winds there is a shift between
where one can rest within the bright sun
the shadows growing long the crisp air
hanging on even with the morning sun
frost beginning to stay awhile the sun longing to stay up all night
popsicles quenching a summer thirst
permission to stay in one place to say yes
to the exuberance of lake swimming
ocean wave thrilling friends gathering
schedules lacking day dreams bursting
and time slower to fade away
some days nostalgia replaces the hours
and past stories play themselves out
again in my head it feels like summer
in my heart it feels like
well deserved rest

We recently stumbled on this mountain lake, we camped here for two nights. For so many reasons this place felt like vacation and not just a hard earned adventure. It may have been the first time I’ve felt that as a parent. Needless to say, it was a welcome feeling!
The photo is wonderful … I can almost feel the dog’s serenity
Thanks so much, Laurie. It sure was a peaceful place to spend a few days!
I like the rhythm and imagery of “schedules lacking day dreams bursting.” Daydreams have trouble blossoming when schedules are in control.
Truly, Janet. It is always on my mind during the summer, letting go and the need to real the freedom back in, for me and others. But, this place is one of those places where it is easy not to fight it 🙂
