One Four Challenge: May Wk.4

I struggled a bit for this final edit. After looking over the image for a long while I decided to emphasize the shadow side of the Chateau this week. I felt a black and white image was most appropriate for this week.

I cropped the image trying to keep the tree shadow on the left-hand line of thirds to provide somewhere for your eye to start. I brought this image into Silver Efex Pro 2 and chose the preset Full Dynamic (smooth). Then I adjusted brightness, structure and contrast a bit more. I adjusted the upper left corner with a control point to adjust the shadows and feel to blend with the rest of the image. I also selected the #13 toning effect to add a soft golden feel to the image.

This was a challenging photograph and fun to work on. I always look forward to your comments and feedback. Thank you for following my process this month. I will leave you with the original and all the edits in a gallery. If you wish, in the comments, specify which one you liked the most and why. Thanks so much to Robyn at Captivate me for hosting this challenge. Click HERE for other entries and to learn more about this challenge.

  1. Very interesting photo! I like the colored ones you have done, but my favourite is week 4. The shadows and texture are so beautiful.

    1. It is so nice to hear from you, Pike. Thank you. I wasn’t sure if there was too much going on in this week’s edit to be interesting. Really happy to hear your feedback. The siding on this structure coupled with the shadows kept calling to me πŸ™‚

      1. It is so wonderful, how much we can do to photos. I like to work with them, but I’m not brave enough to manipulate them more… You got much from shading part! πŸ™‚

  2. This has turned out to be such an interesting image to work with Carrie and I really like what you’ve done this week.. It’s almost become abstract.. Love the tones, deep shadows and texture! Nice work πŸ™‚
As to a favourite choice? I think it’s week 1 for me. I think the rose tones really suit the image, especially the subject and where it is.

    1. I appreciate that, Robyn. I think I am venturing towards more abstract with my work these days. Not sure why, probably just a phase! I love that you like your preset the best πŸ™‚ I think it works beautifully with this image too. Thanks for the encouragement and support!

      1. I’m having a couple of phases too Carrie 😜 Enjoy the abstract – run with it. I really like it when you have to look twice. Enjoy and have fun xx
